This is the way

Simplicity

The world is a complicated place. It can be tiring and monotonous. That is where movies and series come into play. They provide an experience which may be life changing and surreal in every way. However there always seems to be a strange pattern in storytelling. The greater the experience the more complicated a story can be. Take a look at Christopher Nolan’s filmography and you will see. That is where simplicity comes in. In 1977, George Lucas proved a silly and simple story can be a multibillion hit. So, why not do that again?

The Mandalorian was the exact answer towards that issue. It delivered an experience which was fascinating but not requiring the most complicated plot in the world. The entirety of season 1 resides on the Mandalorian discovering the goodness of the universe through Grogu. It is simple yet effective.

The series constantly showcases characters who are all heartless and greedy. Greff Karga hires mercenaries. Kuiil only does stuff for a price without actually using his heart. Cara Dune was an imperial officer. IG-11 is a literal killing machine. However, Mando manages to find the goodness in all these people and allows them to be the kind and soulful characters which we love. The only character that was truly heartless was Moff Gideon.

Now despite my praise I do know that simplicity is not really for everyone. I am unfortunately part of that minority. The action for one takes way too long to finish. Sometimes when an episode wants to convey a message which could have only taken maybe 5 minutes, it just used up an entire episode to do it. There is amazing writing but if something could be shortened should it be shortened?

Overall, the Mandalorian S1 provides a solid premise and a simple story which all could easily follow and garner in a fascinating experience.

The Mandalorian is now streaming on Disney Plus
